First Royal Microfinance Bank Limited was formerly known as Mbukpa Area community Bank Limited incorporated on 25th May 2004 to carry on Community Bank business. As a result of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) policy justification for establishment of Microfinance Banks in Nigeria, Mbukpa Area Community Bank Limited was converted to First Royal Microfinance Bank Limited on 17th September, 2007 with Microfinance Bank license No: 000026 granted by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Since then the Bank has grown in leaps and bounds. The corporate office of the Bank is located at No. 12 Chalmer Street, Calabar Cross River State Nigeria.

At incorporation the authorized and paid up share capital of the bank stood at N5,000,000.00. The authorized share capital currently stands at N120,000,000.00 comprising of N120,000,000.00 ordinary share of N1.00 each, out of which N55,343,600.00 comprising of N55,343,600.00 ordinary share were issued and fully paid with over N18million awaiting capitalization approval. The banks deposit and total assets stood at N451,895,183.94 and N678,740,803.08 respectively as at 15th August 2016. Share holders funds for the same date stood at N116,765,740.51.
